Executed
Albert Miles
Albert Miles was about 30 years old and worked as a farm laborer and school teacher, and a Delaware Gazette account described him as quite intelligent. His execution was delayed by a 60-day stay the governor granted at his own petition, and on July 16, 1884, he was hanged at Natchez, Mississippi. Officers and two ministers escorted him from his cell at noon, and he made a short, firm speech asking for forgiveness and salvation before praying with the ministers. The Gazette reported that his neck was broken and that he died within minutes.
