Albaro Amaral
Albaro Amaral, 33, died on January 25, 2024, at High Desert State Prison near Susanville, California, where he was held in the custody of the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. According to CDCR, staff saw him stabbing another incarcerated person, gave verbal orders and fired a warning shot, and an officer then shot him; he was pronounced dead at an onsite medical facility. The prison's deadly force team and the Lassen County District Attorney's Office are investigating, and the Lassen County Coroner will determine the official cause of death. The other man survived, and the officer involved has not been named while the investigation continues.
