Ahmad Tanveer
Ahmad Tanveer was a Pakistani man who lived in New York. He died in 2005 while held in immigration detention at the Monmouth County Correctional Institute in Freehold, New Jersey. The ACLU says he told officials he had severe chest pain and pleaded for hours for medical help, and that it did not come until it was too late. His death was not made public until the New York Times reported it in 2011, based on documents obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request.
Cause of death, as reported: Cause not yet determined (neglect alleged). The ACLU, citing government FOIA documents, says Tanveer told staff he had severe chest pain and pleaded for hours for medical help that staff did not provide in time.
