Adison Reed

34 years old · El Paso County Criminal Justice Center, El Paso County, Colorado

Adison Reed, 34, was a gifted guitar player in death-metal bands who worked for commercial cannabis growers and was central to his friend Michael Ung's music business. He had two children, and his friends and mother remember his energy and the way he knew everybody. He died after being held at the El Paso County jail in Colorado, and his mother, Kathy Reed, says in a lawsuit against the jail's contracted health provider, Wellpath, that he did not get proper insulin or care for Type 1 diabetes and developed diabetic ketoacidosis. The lawsuit says jail staff called hospital staff too late, and that he was taken to a hospital, where he later died. The county did not complete an autopsy.

Cause of death, as reported: Died of illness (neglect alleged). Kathy Reed's lawsuit says untreated Type 1 diabetes, including diabetic ketoacidosis, killed him, and that jail health provider Wellpath did not give him proper insulin or care and that staff called the hospital too late.

Reported by: Kathy Reed and the family's lawsuit against Wellpath (family or their lawyers).

Lawsuit: His family sued Wellpath over the care he received at the El Paso County jail, and no settlement or award amount has been reported.
