Adelino Najera
Adelino Najera, 33, died on January 22, 2008, at Johnston Correctional Institution, a state prison near Smithfield, North Carolina. Department of Correction spokesman Keith Acree said Najera climbed two fences around the prison around noon and was shot by a correctional officer after failing to stop when ordered to. The State Bureau of Investigation investigated the shooting, which the department described as routine.
