Adams
Dana Adams, a Black man, was being moved by train toward Leavenworth in 1893 under arrangements made by the Saline County sheriff. One account says vigilantes unhitched his railroad car, and a crowd reached him and hanged him from a telegraph pole at the station. A second report, from the Ceredo Advance, says about 500 men took him from the officers guarding him and hanged him from a tree without giving him a chance to speak. One account says some of the lynchers may be prosecuted, and another says no arrests were made in the killing.
Cause of death, as reported: Taken from custody and lynched. A mob hanged Adams from a telegraph pole after vigilantes unhitched the railroad car carrying him under sheriff's arrangements; a newspaper report says a mob of about 500 men took him from officers and hanged him from a tree.
