Adam Rappaport
Adam Rappaport was remembered by his mother as special, brilliant and sensitive, a gifted child who took electronics apart and put them back together and loved school at Hudson Valley Community College. He was held in the Albany County jail, and on October 18, 2014, he was found dead in his cell. The coroner's finding of strangulation by a thin, woven object was reported by his mother, while the sheriff said he had been in reception and had not indicated he was suicidal at intake. His mother says she told police he might be suicidal and is seeking answers about the hours between a hopeful letter he sent that day and his death.
Cause of death, as reported: Died by suicide (neglect alleged). The coroner ruled it suicide by strangulation with a thin, woven object, and his mother says she told police he might be suicidal before his death, while the sheriff said he had not indicated suicidal risk at intake.
Reported by: Albany County coroner (medical examiner or coroner); his mother.
