Adam Coppa
Adam Coppa, 32, died on March 1, 2018, while held at the Arizona State Prison Complex in Yuma, near San Luis, during a riot in the Cheyenne Unit involving hundreds of people. The Arizona Department of Corrections said he suffered fatal injuries during the melee, and a later account from the department gave a gunshot wound as the cause. The department said its investigation into the disturbance is ongoing. An attorney for correctional officers said staffing was inadequate and that managers had been warned in advance.
