Died in custody
Abe Davis
Abe Davis was one of four young Black men held by a posse of citizens and officers in Monroe County, Alabama, in October 1892. According to newspaper reports, a crowd of about 500 men met the posse at the scene and took the men from the officers. The crowd hanged them from a tree, and the accounts say their bodies were then burned. One report says the officers did not resist or give up the men, while the other does not say whether they did.
