Died in custody
A. T. Harden
A. T. Harden was being driven to Birmingham for safekeeping by three deputy sheriffs when an armed mob took him and another man from the deputies on a Sunday in August 1933. His body was found beside the highway, and the Atlanta Daily World reported that it had been riddled with bullets. The governor called the lynching a matter of much gravity and ordered an investigation, which the paper said was still under way.
Cause of death, as reported: Taken from custody and lynched
