Williamson
Williamson, a Black man, was held in the Lebanon jail in Tennessee in February 1876. According to the Memphis Daily Appeal, a group of twenty-five to fifty men came to the jail demanding the keys; the jailer first refused, but his wife handed them over, and the mob broke into the rear of the jail and took him from his cell. The mob hanged and shot him about a mile and a half from Lebanon, and his body was cut down the next morning. A coroner's jury, as reported, found that he died at the hands of parties unknown, and a Nashville dispatch in The Daily Dispatch likewise described a mob taking him from the jail and hanging and shooting him.
