William Young
William Young was held in the Marion County jail in Ocala, Florida. On the morning of May 15, 1894, the Morning News reports, about fifty men broke the jail yard gate with a sledge hammer while the sheriff and his deputy were at breakfast, and the jailer, the only officer on duty, opened the front door. The men took William to a tree near the city cemetery and hanged him, and the paper says the sheriff had earlier refused to give him up. Other papers reported that he was taken from the Ocala jail by a body of citizens and hanged to a tree opposite the graveyard.
