Wallace
Wallace was held in the jail at Steeleville, Missouri, in October 1886. Reports say a mob of about one hundred armed men came to the jail at midnight, and one account says the jailer refused them entry before they broke down the doors. The mob took Wallace from his cell and hanged him from a tree near the jail. One account says an earlier mob had seized him on October 1, and that the sheriff returned him to his cell; another gives October 4 as the date of his death.
Cause of death, as reported: Taken from custody and lynched. A mob of about one hundred armed men took Wallace from the Steelville, Missouri jail and hanged him, according to the newspaper accounts.
