Vernon Ramsey
Vernon Ramsey died on December 2, 2024, while held at the Tarrant County Jail in Fort Worth, Texas. According to the Tarrant County Sheriff's Office, he told jail staff he was not feeling well, was examined by jail medical staff, and was taken by ambulance to John Peter Smith Hospital, where he died. The medical examiner later ruled his death natural, listing hypertensive atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease as the cause and diabetes as a contributing factor. His wife, Tamra Ramsey, told the state jail commission that he suffered from poor medical care, delayed medications and stress while held there, and says the death was preventable and disputes the diabetes finding.
Cause of death, as reported: Died of illness (disputed; neglect alleged). The medical examiner ruled his death natural from hypertensive atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, but his wife, Tamra Ramsey, disputes the diabetes finding, says jail medical staff did not give him medications on time, and says the death was preventable.
Reported by: Tarrant County Medical Examiner (medical examiner or coroner); Tamra Ramsey, his wife (family or their lawyers).
