In May 1882 the Huntsville Gazette reported that a man held at Quebec Penitentiary was one of five men working outside the prison walls who tied up the warden and tried to flee. According to the paper, he died of a gunshot wound sustained in the struggle with guards that followed. The paper gave no further details of his death.
Cause of death, as reported: Killed by staff. Guards fatally shot one prisoner during a struggle after five prisoners tied up the warden and tried to flee.
