A man died at Central Utah Prison in Gunnison on September 2, 2023. The Utah Department of Corrections said his cellmate alerted officers after he was found unresponsive in his cell, and he was pronounced dead just after 10:30 a.m. The department said its Law Enforcement Bureau and the Utah State Bureau of Investigation are investigating, and officials said the death was unrelated to an August 21 fight at the prison.
