A man died on February 9, 2026, at Pinckneyville Correctional Center in Illinois, where he was held in the custody of the Illinois Department of Corrections. His brother, Randy Donath, told the Southern Illinoisan that he was fatally stabbed during a fight at the prison, in which four other people were injured. Randy Donath says the family has learned very little about what happened and feels let down by the state of Illinois, and a week after the death it was still searching for answers. The state's report to the Illinois Criminal Justice Information Authority also records the death at the prison, at age 74, but gives no name or circumstances.
