A 30-year-old woman died on December 22, 2018, while held at the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center in Louisiana. The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office said she had been receiving treatment for a pre-existing condition while housed in the jail's onsite medical unit. She was found unresponsive in her cell on a Saturday morning, taken to a local hospital and pronounced dead there. The sheriff's office has not stated a cause of death.
