A person held at the Jackson County Detention Center in Missouri died on April 21, 2023. The Jackson County Sheriff's Office, led by Sheriff Darryl Forté, said staff found the person unresponsive that Friday evening and that emergency medical services took them to a hospital, where they were later pronounced dead. The sheriff's office said it opened an investigation, which it described as standard in such cases.
