A man held at Rikers Island died at the jail's North Infirmary Command in the early morning of February 4, 2023, the first death at the facility that year, the Department of Correction said. The department said it is working with partner agencies on a full investigation, to be conducted by the State Attorney General's Office and the NYC Department of Investigation. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death, which has not been reported.
