Four men were found dead in April 2017 in a housing unit for people with mental illness at Kirkland Correctional Institution in Columbia, South Carolina. WYFF reported in July 2017 that two fellow prisoners had been charged in connection with the deaths. A 2018 Post and Courier report says the two prisoners lured the men into a cell and attacked them, and it lists strangulation and stabbing as the causes of death.
