A man, 49, died on May 31, 2024, at Madison County Jail, in the custody of the Madison County Sheriff's Office. The death was reported to the Illinois Criminal Justice Information Authority, which does not publish the names of the people who died. The Madison County Sheriff's Office reported the manner of death as natural causes. Its report says: “Cellmate stated he was sleeping on bottom bunk when victim's foot struck him. Cellmate observed victim lying face on the floor. Cellmate stated he believed victim was having a seizure. Cellmate stated he rolled victim over onto his side. Nurse and EMS were contacted.”
