A woman was found dead in the backseat of a patrol car recovered from the Tennessee River near the Meigs and Hamilton county border, in February 2024. She had been taken into custody by a Meigs County deputy who was driving her to the county jail when he lost contact with his office. Authorities were still working to confirm her identity, and no name or background has been reported. Meigs County District Attorney Russell Johnson said the car going into the river is being treated as an accident while the investigation continues.
