Died in jail or a lockup
Name not reported
A man held in the jail at Columbia, Louisiana, died in October 1891 after a mob took him from the jail and killed him. The Oxford Eagle reported the killing as a lynching, and his name appears garbled in the newspaper's text. The surviving account does not give his age, family or occupation, so he is remembered here only by place and date. How the jailer or sheriff responded to the mob is not reported.
Cause of death, as reported: Taken from custody and lynched
