A Black man was one of sixteen people held in the jail at Trenton, West Tennessee, when an armed mob wearing masks broke in, took him from custody, and killed him. The men were being held in the jail while awaiting trial. The Weekly Clarion, reprinting the Memphis Appeal, reported the killings as a mass killing carried out by the mob.
