A man died on December 11, 2022, while held at Wallens Ridge State Prison in Big Stone Gap, Virginia, and his name has not been made public. The Virginia Department of Corrections said another prisoner apparently attacked him on a Sunday afternoon. He was taken to Lonesome Pine Hospital in Big Stone Gap, where he was pronounced dead.
