A man whose name had not been released died while in custody at the Mississippi State Penitentiary in Parchman. The Mississippi Department of Corrections said his identity was pending notification of next of kin, and that the cause and manner of his death were pending an autopsy. The department said his death was not related to earlier violence at the prison. The department announced the death in January 2020.
