Green, a Black man, was held in a jail in Centreville, Kent County, Maryland, in May 1891. According to the Fort Worth Gazette, a mob took him from the jail after 1 a.m. and hanged him from a tree. The paper reported that a large crowd gathered around the courthouse during the day.
