A man in his mid-60s died of COVID-19 on October 7, 2020, at Greene Correctional Institution, a state prison near Maury, North Carolina. The North Carolina Department of Public Safety said he had underlying health conditions, was hospitalized on September 24, and tested positive for the virus on September 26.
