Shabazz Wingfield
Shabazz Wingfield died in 2025 while held at the Athens-Clarke County Jail in Athens, Georgia. His grandmother, Crystal Robinson Elder, remembered him and said it was hard and heartbreaking for young people to die this way. The Athens-Clarke County Sheriff's Office lists his death among four at the jail since April, and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation is reviewing these deaths. The cause has not been established, and some of the deaths are suspected to involve fentanyl.
