Ronald DeFeo Jr., 69, died on March 12, 2021, at Albany Medical Center, where he had been taken from Sullivan Correctional Facility in Fallsburg, New York, where he was held. He was known as Butch, and at a 1999 parole hearing he said, "I loved my family very much." State corrections officials confirmed the death and said the Albany County Medical Examiner's Office would determine the cause. He had been transferred to the hospital in early February, and the cause of death was still pending.
