died January 24, 1904 · Todd County, Kentucky

Radford, a Black man, was held in the jail at Guthrie, Kentucky, in January 1904. According to newspaper accounts, a mob of thirty to forty men broke into the jail corridor and beat John Dock, a Black man the marshal had hired to feed the prisoners. Dock handed over the keys to Radford's cell when the mob demanded them. The mob fired several shots into the cell, dragged Radford to a tree near the jail door and hanged him, and one paper said he was probably already dead from the gunshot wounds. Authorities cut his body down within an hour.
