Michael W. Smith
Michael W. Smith, 48, died on January 14, 2023, after a fire at Indiana State Prison in Michigan City, Indiana, where he was held. The Indiana Department of Correction said the cause was a fire, and the Department, Indiana State Police, the state fire marshal's office and the Michigan City Fire Department were investigating it. The manner of death was listed as pending. Two other people were treated at nearby hospitals and have since been released.
