Lathanial Hutcherson
Lathaniel Hutcherson, 28, died on August 20, 2023, at High Desert State Prison in Indian Springs, Nevada, where he was held in the custody of the Nevada Department of Corrections. Paul Lunkwitz, president of the Fraternal Order of Police Nevada C.O. Lodge 21, said another person held at the prison got out of his separation cage and stabbed him with a prison-made weapon. The department announced the death but had not named the suspected attacker, and prison officials did not respond to a request for comment. Lunkwitz said staffing shortages and skipped safety protocols, including the lack of a gun rail, contributed to the death.
