Kingsley Bimpong

50 years old · died November 19, 2024 · Dakota County Law Enforcement Center, Dakota County, Minnesota

Kingsley Fifi Bimpong was a Cottage Grove man and a postal worker, and according to his family's lawsuit he left work early because of a headache. He was taken into custody by Eagan police and held at the Dakota County Jail in November 2024. His next-of-kin say he showed stroke symptoms for hours and did not get adequate medical response while held there, and the lawsuit says he lay on his cell floor before help arrived. He was taken to Regina Hospital, declared brain dead, and died there, and the Ramsey County Medical Examiner determined the cause of death was an intracerebral hemorrhage. The City of Eagan says his condition did not appear to be an objectively serious emergency at the time, and Dakota County declined to comment due to the pending litigation.

Cause of death, as reported: Died from neglect by staff (disputed). The Ramsey County Medical Examiner determined an intracerebral hemorrhage, and the family's wrongful death lawsuit says jail staff ignored his stroke symptoms for hours and officers were deliberately indifferent to his medical needs; the county declined to comment due to pending litigation.

Reported by: Ramsey County Medical Examiner (medical examiner or coroner); next-of-kin wrongful death lawsuit (family or their lawyers); Dakota County Jail (the agency that held him).

Lawsuit: His family sued, alleging deliberate indifference to his medical needs while he was held at the Dakota County Jail, and the suit seeks $120 million.
