Jordan
Jordan, a Black man, was held in a Louisiana jail in January 1885 when, according to the St. Landry Democrat of January 3, 1885, a mob of about thirty-five armed men took him from the jail and shot him. The paper's account is one-sided and repeats an accusation against him as fact, which is not reproduced here. The newspaper does not name the jail or its location, and it does not say whether the jailer or sheriff resisted the mob, gave up the keys, or handed him over.
