John Sanchez
John Sanchez, 34, was held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Albuquerque, where the Bernalillo County Sheriff's Office says he was hurt in altercations and an escape attempt. He was taken to University of New Mexico Hospital with severe injuries, taken off life support, and pronounced dead on June 16, 2023. The sheriff's office is investigating and has placed three jail officers on administrative leave. His father, Benny Jaramillo, said, "We expect our kids to bury us. We don't expect to bury our kids," and believes one or more people at the jail fatally beat his son.
