John Gardner, 64, was executed by lethal injection at the Huntsville Unit in Huntsville, Texas, on January 15, 2020, as the Texas Department of Criminal Justice recorded. The Texas Tribune reported that no appeals were pending when the execution was carried out and that friends and a spiritual adviser were expected to watch. In his final words, he told his friends he loved them and apologized for the grief he had caused. According to the Tribune, he was pronounced dead 16 minutes after a lethal dose of pentobarbital was given.
