Jesse Jacobs

32 years old · died July 2015 · Galveston County Jail, Galveston County, Texas

Jesse Jacobs, 32, died in July 2015 after being taken from the Galveston County Jail to the University of Texas Medical Branch. His mother, Diane Jacobs, told The Advocate that she called the jail to tell a doctor about his medical needs and was told no doctor was on site. His family says jail staff withheld his prescribed Xanax and that the resulting withdrawal caused the seizure that killed him. The autopsy lists natural causes, and Sheriff Henry Trochessett's office maintains he died of natural causes; how he was first found unresponsive is disputed.

Cause of death, as reported: Died of illness (disputed; neglect alleged). The autopsy and Sheriff Henry Trochessett attribute his death to natural causes, while his family says jail staff withheld his prescribed Xanax and that withdrawal caused the seizure that killed him.

Reported by: Galveston County Sheriff's Office (the agency that held him); Galveston County autopsy report (medical examiner or coroner); Jesse Jacobs's family (family or their lawyers).
