Hong Di
Hong Di, a Chinese man, was held in the Colusa jail in Colusa, California, when a mob took him from the jail in July 1887. Newspaper accounts give the date as July 10 or July 11 and say the mob hanged him, with the place given as a bridge in one account and the railroad yards in another. One dispatch from Colusa reported that guards posted by the sheriff offered little resistance because they sympathized with the crowd, and that the sheriff had earlier tried to calm the crowd. Another account said the mob seized the sheriff and that a National Guard company stationed at the jail had been removed shortly before midnight.
