Gerald Cummings Jr., 57, died on December 11, 2021, while held at the Idaho State Correctional Institution. Staff responded to a report of a fight in his cell early that Saturday and found him unresponsive, the Ada County Sheriff's Office said. The sheriff's office said he had injuries that appeared to be from a physical beating, and paramedics could not save him; he was pronounced dead about an hour after staff found him. Investigators said his cellmate is being held in connection with the death, and they are still working to determine a motive.
