George
George, a Black young man about seventeen years old according to one account, was in the custody of the sheriff in Texas when a mob came for him in the early hours of April 25, 1906. The Daily Press reports that seven men took him from the sheriff about 1 a.m. and hanged him from a tree. The sheriff fired at the mob several times, but the men did not return fire and no one was wounded. The Paducah Sun reports that officers holding him near Oakwood were overpowered by the mob, and that his body was found hanging from a tree the next morning.
