Died in jail or a lockup
Frank McDonald
Frank McDonald was held in the jail at Menominee, Michigan. According to the Dallas Weekly Herald, on the day after a killing the previous Monday, a mob of about four hundred battered the jail door down with heavy timber, took him from the cell, dragged him to his death on the road and strung his body to a tree. The paper reported this as a lynching from custody, and it is a single newspaper account from 1881. The newspaper did not say how the jail staff responded.
