Frank Brown
Frank Brown, a Black man, was held in the jail at Conway, Arkansas, in September 1905. On the night of September 22, a mob took him from the jail and hanged him on the outskirts of town, according to an Arkansas Gazette dispatch, which reported that the mob entered the jail without difficulty and that few townspeople knew of the killing until afterward. Sheriff Harrell was in Little Rock at the time, and he said by telephone that he believed the wrong man had been lynched. Some accounts place the hanging in front of a house on the Lawrence property, while others describe it only as a tree on the edge of town.
Cause of death, as reported: Killed by another person in custody
