Executed
Elijah Cheevers
Elijah Cheavers, spelled Cheevers in one report, was held in the jail in Ware County, Georgia, and was described as Black. The Times reported that he was taken from the jail to a gallows in a pine forest outside town and hanged that afternoon, May 12, 1892. The Daily Public Ledger dates the execution to Friday, May 13, so the reports disagree on the day. According to The Times, before the drop he asked for a coffin, which had not been provided, and he spoke and sang at the gallows.
Cause of death, as reported: Executed by the state
