Dr. Chintan Vimalkumar Shah
Dr. Chintan Shah, 40, had worked as a kidney specialist and clinical assistant professor at the University of Florida. He was held at the Alachua County Jail while awaiting trial, and the Alachua County Sheriff's Office said he was found unresponsive in his cell on August 13, 2026. Emergency medical personnel pronounced him dead at 7:42 a.m. Authorities have not announced a cause of death, and the sheriff's office is conducting a criminal investigation and an internal review.
