Douglas Brown
Douglas Brown, 41, was an Army veteran held at the Fulton County Jail in Georgia. According to an Atlanta Journal-Constitution investigation, he repeatedly said he was not receiving his twice-daily insulin for diabetes, and he missed doses over roughly ten days as his health declined. He was found dead on the floor of his cell, and the investigation links his death to diabetic ketoacidosis, one of at least a dozen deaths in Georgia jails and prisons over the past decade tied to that condition.
Cause of death, as reported: Died of illness (neglect alleged). The AJC investigation says he died of diabetic ketoacidosis after jail staff withheld his twice-daily insulin doses over about 10 days, though he repeatedly said he was not getting them.
Reported by: The Atlanta Journal-Constitution investigation (reporters).
