David Walker

51 years old · died September 7, 2018 · Salt Lake County Metro Jail, Salt Lake County, Utah

David Walker, 51, made unusual artwork, loved his children fiercely, and loved Utah's big sky, which his brother John has tattooed on his side. He was held at the Salt Lake County Jail, where, according to his medical records, he asked a medical staffer for help in late July 2018 and said he was suicidal. The records say he was given handouts and that no one checked back with him, and another account reports that a mental health worker handed him a brochure, which he said would not help. He died by suicide, and was declared dead at a hospital on September 7, 2018.

Cause of death, as reported: Died by suicide (neglect alleged). Rocky Anderson says a mental health worker handed David Walker a brochure after he said he was having suicidal thoughts, and his medical records say no one checked back with him after he asked a medical staffer for help in July.

Reported by: his medical records; Rocky Anderson (advocates).
