Daniel Taylor
Daniel Taylor was held at the Duval County jail in Florida when he was injured in a confrontation with corrections officers in August 2021. Paramedics called to evaluate him sedated him with ketamine while he was on the floor in handcuffs, and he went into cardiac arrest. The Duval County medical examiner ruled his death a homicide, attributing it to lack of oxygen to the brain from an irregular heartbeat after the altercation. His sister, NaTasha Taylor, spoke for the family about the week he spent in the hospital before they chose to take him off life support. As of the reporting, the State Attorney's Office had not said whether charges would be filed, and a second coroner's report had been requested.
Cause of death, as reported: Killed by staff (disputed). The Duval County medical examiner ruled the death a homicide, citing lack of oxygen to the brain from an irregular heartbeat after a violent physical altercation with corrections officers, and a second coroner's report was requested, so the official account is contested.
Reported by: Duval County medical examiner (medical examiner or coroner).
