Died in jail or a lockup
Daly
Daly was held at the Phoenix Jail in Arizona in May 1917 when two deputy sheriffs were taking him toward the state penitentiary at Florence. A vigilante group took him from the deputies on Sunday, May 6, carried him about 18 miles east of Phoenix and hanged him from a telephone pole. Officials had earlier abandoned an attempt to move him from the Phoenix jail. The report says the crowd recited the Lord's Prayer before the hanging.
